Use of methyl prednisolone in patient with advanced lung cancer






Abstract
Methyl prednisolone was introduced to 40 patients with advanced lung cancer. These patients were usually suffering from cough, chest pain, dyspnea, general weakness, nausea. and vomiting, headache and occasionally high fever. In cases of advanced lung cancer. where favorable management such as operation, radiation and any combination therapy cannot be restorred thaw patients should be treated for the relief of severe subjective symptoms.
Recently some authors began to try methyl prednisolone in the management of theseterminal patients with good results.
At the time various analgesics and even a cordotomy were used for the pain; antiemetics for the nausea or vomiting; bronchodilator or prednisolone for dyspnea.
This report describes the results of 40 patients with advanced cancer who were treated_ with daily methyl prednisolone for including symptomatic relief. Most were suffering from advanced lung cancer with metastasis; in relieving 15 epidermoid carcinoma, 10 adenocarcinoma and 7 oat cell carcnoma.
Overall results of the methyl prednisolone the various consecutive clinical symptoms, such as chest pain, dyspnea, coughing, and nausea or vomiting during chemotherapy, were evaluated as 48% excellent, 37% good and 15% poor, for 89 episodes.
There are 3 minor side effects: rash, increased urine sugar and mental deterioration_ These cases h Woo 1k Chang;Seung Min Kim;Uk Yong Lee;Sung Kyu Kim;Won Young Lee;Kiho Kim cave not required any treatment except discontinuation of the methyl prednisolone.
